2022 is drawing to a close and 2023 is sure to be an incredible year. For the last article of the year, we thought it would be fun to look into the biggest NFT sales in 2022. Here they are.
#1: Clock | $52.7 Million
The most expensive NFT sold in 2022 was Clock, an NFT with a cause. The NFT surrounded Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks. Today, Assange is in prison in the UK facing extradition to the United States. If extradited, he faces nearly two centuries in jail.
The Clock NFT is a collaboration between Pak, a world-renowned NFT artist and Assange. AssangeDAO purchased the NFT for 16,953 ETH, working out to about $52.7 million.
#2: CryptoPunk #5822 | $23.7 Million
The second most expensive NFT this year was CryptoPunk #5822 which sold for 8,000 ETH, or about $23.7 million. Deepak Thapliyal, the CEO of Chain, purchased the digital art in February. Later in the year, Tiffany’s turned the NFT into a pendant.
#3: CryptoPunk #5577 | $7.28 Million
The wildly popular collection, CryptoPunks earned another spot on the list with CryptoPunk #5577. The NFT fetched 2,501 ETH, working out to about $7.28 million in another February sale. The punk is wears a cowboy hat, which made it valuable since only about 1% of NFTs in the collection wear these hats.
#4: Ukrainian Flag | $6.8 Million
This NFT was simply a print of the Ukranian Flag, but it wasn’t the art that was valuable, it was the cause behind the art. The proceeds from the $6.8 million sale were donated to Come Back Alive, an organization that donates supplies to Ukranian military members and civilians.
#5: All The Time High In The City | $6.2 Million
In early 2022, All The Time High In the City sold for 1,630 ETH, working out to about $6.2 million. The purchase was made by rarecollector3000.
The NFT was created by an early artist, XCOPY, who’s art typically features a dark theme. This particular NFT features an image of a trader being death ferried to hell.
