Johnny Depp is a professional artist. Yes, acting is indeed an art. However, many fans don’t realize that acting isn’t the only art he shines at. Depp is also a painter, and a pretty damn good one at that, and he soon plans to sell pieces of his original works as non-fungible tokens, or NFTs.

Johnny Depp to Sell Paintings As NFTs

Johnny Depp has been creating intimate paintings of his friends and personal heroes for some time. Now, he plans on sharing them with his fans through NFTs.

According to various reports, Depp will be selling an NFT collection of his paintings. However, rather than the traditional 10,000 pieces, Depp’s collection will feature 11,111 pieces. The collection will be known as “Never Fear Truth” with each piece in the collection being sold as a one of a kind, verifiable digital asset traded using the blockchain.

The vast majority of paintings are portraits developed by Depp himself that will be embellished and animated prior to the sale. These paintings feature names like Johnny Depp himself along with Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Hunter S. Thompson, Heath Ledger, Tim Burton, Johnny’s late dog Mooh, a character created by his son called Bunnyman, and Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose.

If you’ve never seen Depp’s paintings before, and chances are you haven’t, considering that the NFT sale is the first public look at his paintings, you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you do. His style offers up a mix of pop and street art using vibrant colors to make them pop. The famed actor explains that the paintings are reflections of the individual’s character as he sees it.

When the NFT sales take place, they won’t just be padding Depp’s already impressively fat pockets. He plans on donating a big chunk of sales.

In fact, 25% of proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and The Gonzo Trust, created in memory of Hunter S. Thompson, a personal hero to Johnny Depp.

Depp is also taking measures to ensure that his fans have a fair shot at success in buying a piece in this collection. He’s making cryptocurrency tutorials available to all who are interested as well as launching a raffle to assign fair purchasing rights.

Ten thousand of the NFTs in the collection can be purchased at www.neverfeartruth.com and applications opened on Wednesday. Secondary sales will be supported by www.rarible.com. Moreover, each NFT is also backed by a high-resolution physical edition that may be redeemed, but only once.

Johnny Depp Commentary

In a statement, Depp had the following to offer:

“I’ve always used art to express my feelings and to reflect on those who matter most to me, like my family, friends and people I admire. My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves.

We decided to release a series of portraits, but in a way that could also give something back. Having the opportunity to salute my supporters and support the charities that have been so important to my family is an incredible gift. I hope we can create a new community of friends around these NFTs. My involvement in the NFT space has just begun.”

The Bottom Line

The bottom line here is simple. As more and more big names dive into NFTs, we’re quickly realizing that this is a form of art that’s here to stay. Even Depp obviously has a rosy picture of the future of these assets with his statement that his involvement in the NFT space has just begun. All in all, yet another big star dives in creating yet another big feather in the cap of NFT enthusiasts.
